Cost Savings/Benefits:
History
When Dr. Lori Kemper and her partners determined that electronic medical records were a good option in 1997 when they first began putting their practice together. They visited multiple trade shows and conducted extensive research but found that many options were not intuitive, an aspect that was crucial to their practice, as they do resident training and need to get people up to speed quickly and efficiently.
Additionally, she found that many EMR programs force users
to conform to their way of doing things. Dr. Kemper appreciated
the fact that MedicWare provided a flexible set up that could
be personalized to their needs while being intuitive and easy
to learn. The No. 1 benefit to MedicWare is that our patient
records are always there, always neat and can be used and
instantly found by multiple people at one time, says Dr. Kemper.
No More Messy Handwriting
We do a lot of resident training, says
Dr. Kemper. That means we have a lot of bad handwriting come
through. The residents work here for a few years and then leave,
and were stuck with trying to read their bad handwriting when
revisiting patient records. With MedicWare, there are no such
problems EMR eliminates the need to decipher handwriting by
providing clean, typewritten records for every patient.
Legibility is crucial to us, and the quality of the note
dictates the billing level we can record, says Dr. Kemper.
This is key to our business because we can justify our billing
rate and get the true return on the service we provide our
patients.
Long-Term Commitment
While searching for an EMR source in
the late-nineties, Dr. Kemper noticed a lot of companies that
had been around for 12 months or less. MedicWare was the one
of the few companies that had been around for more than a year
they had been working on their product for five years, and that
made me feel like they would be around for years to come to
support the product I bought from them, said Dr. Kemper. I also
felt they would have worked out many of the kinks and problems
the newer companies might not even know about yet.
Now, almost seven years later, Dr. Kemper
has found that MedicWare, aside from still being around, has
kept up with the latest developments in the world of EMR,
and the upgrades provided have made it unnecessary to change
to another product.
