The three doctors at Jones & Jones Medical Associates saw electronic medical records as an opportunity to better track patients and procedures while eliminating the need for charts and increasing time and ease of access. Dr. Jones investigated about five different providers of the software and services necessary to implement an EMR system in the clinic and determined that MedicWare was the best option based on practical use and his personal trust in the company sales and support personnel. “It’s difficult to make a decision on which service to use with little practical experience with the individual providers, but the personality of the sales team and the cost of MedicWare settled the deal for us,” says Dr. Jones.

Transition to MedicWare
Six years before implementing MedicWare, Jones & Jones Medical Associates implemented an electronic scheduling program that met with significant staff resistance. “The staff was not happy when we switched to electronic scheduling, but pretty soon, once they realized the benefits and got used to it, they loved it,” says Dr. Jones. While he was a little worried that MedicWare would meet the same initial reception, he was surprised to find his staff happy to adopt the new technology, perhaps based on previous experience.

Paperless Benefits
The fact that charts are instantly available on MedicWare is a huge benefit to Jones & Jones Medical Associates. “For example, when someone calls on the phone we can have immediate answers and do not have to wait for the chart to be pulled and then reviewed,” says Dr. Jones. The fact that all prior visits, laboratory studies and pathology lab results are instantly available for review whether the patient is on the phone or in the office is invaluable to the busy team of doctors at the clinic.

In addition to access, the ability to clearly record and print prescriptions is a big benefit to the clinic. “I feel we have better patient satisfaction from being able to print or fax prescriptions to the patients’ pharmacy,” says Dr. Jones.


Customer Service
Dr. Jones based some of his decision to implement MedicWare on the company’s reputation and service, and he says his initial perception of the quality of service he would receive was correct. “The customer and technical support staff are excellent,” says Dr. Jones. “They always answer the phone immediately or, if they are not available, they call me back as soon as they can. They are always pleasant and friendly, even when I ask the same question a number of times.”
